Imagine dropping a tiny pebble into a still pond. What happens? That one small drop sets off a series of ripples that grow larger and larger, emanating outward until they span the entire pond. You are that pebble. You can have that kind of impact simply by standing up, speaking out, and living a life that aligns with your values, as you have learned throughout Project Green Challenge.
Over the past 25 days, you’ve seen how every action has both positive and negative impacts that reach far beyond an original or intended purpose. Consider the transition in your own life since the start of PGC through curious exploration, in-depth education, intentional choice, and mindful action. How have you transformed? Who have you inspired? What have you learned about your inner power as a changemaker? How have you seen yourself prompt shifts in your community?
With dedication, intention, and passion for people and planet, YOU, one person, fuel specific and widespread change.
Now, it’s time to take all you have learned and develop a climate action project for relevant, real world, actionable impact.
To be considered for the PGC Finals, you MUST participate in the next four challenge days and develop a climate action project proposal. But ALL are welcome to continue to learn and engage as treasured PGC 2020 participants!
What is a climate action project?
A climate action project is a plan to make tangible change for people and planet on your campus or in your community with the environment as a guidepost.
You have been preparing for this all throughout PGC! Think of the challenges where you were asked to create a project proposal or investigate practices in your own lives and communities. Create a realistic, high impact campaign centered around any themes that inspire you. How can you effect change, even in the middle of a pandemic? Use your brilliant minds to think outside the box!
Your project must:
Up to 16 PGC participants will be selected as PGC Finalists to attend the PGC Virtual Finals on November 20-21, 2020. Our hope remains to have all finalists join us in San Francisco to present projects during Earth Month in April 2021, pending health and safety guidelines. PGC Finalists will be partnered with mentors from diverse professional sectors at the Finals and then from December onwards, to help bring climate action projects to life with success and impact. Up to 5 teams will receive seed money to kickstart projects, selected based on presentations at the PGC Virtual Finals.
Before you dive into a project idea, take time to reflect on the past 25 days. Wow!

Next, think back over this month of PGC. Which daily themes really inspired you? What issues caught your attention? What do you care passionately about?
Post a visual depiction of the themes and their impact on Instagram to underscore their personal and global importance. Tag @TurningGreenOrg in the caption and photo itself, and use #PGC2020.

Now that you’ve reflected on the most memorable themes, it’s time to take the next step. PGC has equipped you with the tools you need to create change… so what now?
Your next task is to develop three potential project ideas that you would be interested in bringing to life and implementing locally.
Share a brief outline of each project. Think about the logistics, timeline, costs, long term feasibility, action steps, metrics for success, and lasting impact. Create a pro and con list for each.
Once you’ve created this list, take time over the next couple of days to consider which project may work best. Talk to other students, staff, faculty, administration and local leaders to hear ideas and opinions. The Greenest challenge has an extended deadline to give you time to consider!

If you think you can accomplish something, you can! If you think you are a changemaker, you are! If you lead with intention and purpose, your actions will be far-reaching and powerful. Mindsets are everything. We see you as a climate changemaker, and want you to see yourself as one, too!
Select one project from the Greener challenge that you feel most drawn to further develop as your PGC climate action project. If selected as a Finalist, this will be the project you develop and will present at the PGC Finals in April. The others can be back up projects, should you hit unexpected roadblocks, or be brought to life later by you or others!
Now that you have a focus, develop an in-depth outline of your climate action project. Construct a detailed overview describing how you will implement this idea. Think about an inspiring, bold, innovative, actionable project with concrete, lasting, positive impact.

How can you mobilize people right now? Flex that muscle where and when it matters most! In the US, we’re rapidly approaching one of the most important elections in history, which impacts not only the United States, but the entire world. So let’s tell everyone we know to VOTE!
Host an Instagram Live about why voting matters for your followers (no matter how many you have!). Do research beforehand to outline the points you want to raise. Feel free to pull content from the Vote Challenge and any other information, statistics or calls to action you feel will get people to the polls. Be sure to tell friends and followers to log on at a set time, encouraging them to engage with you on IG Live.
Save the Instagram Live video immediately afterwards. You only get one shot! Write a brief caption, tagging @TurningGreenOrg and #PGC2020 for your feed.
